Why is FOUNDATION so important?
Foundation elements are those things that your child will see day after day, week after week, month after month and year after year - you get the picture. Each and every grade level leads to the next step. The foundation is being built every year. But your child most likely has not mastered their multiplication facts that were introduced in the 3rd grade. Since multiplication is in every single problem, you can see how this has created a huge divide in their abilities in math.
The problem is that they don't realize that this is their #1 problem.
Your child knows so much more than they realize. They are still doing the work but it's difficult because of the lack of a solid foundation.
Nearly all of the 350+ students that I've worked with had not mastered their multiplication facts. This one thing caused them to spend huge amounts of time working out 6•7 or 7•8, etc - over and over again.
To compound this problem, these facts are crucial to know when working with FRACTIONS. That is the reason that the mention of the word 'fractions' elicits such a negative response.
Even calculators are not the answer. They are not a magic solution. They're great to check answers but some problems are actually faster to work by simply knowing multiplication facts.
The good news is that your child can master these facts without traditional flash cards or focused memorization.
The other KEY piece has to do with MINDSET. Your child has been convinced for a long time that they will never be good at math. In order to help them understand that this is NOT TRUE, Mindset Training can address this thinking and help them turn around their negative thinking about math.
